A transformer is a static electrical device that transfers electrical energy between two or more circuits through electromagnetic induction. They are used extensively in the power generating industry and are often seen in close proximity to homes, shops and factories where the high voltage initially produced has to be reduced significantly to make the local equipment work without overloading.
